What is the McKenzie Therapy?

McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy is an internationally acclaimed and safe method of assessing musculoskeletal pain. The goal is to correct the movement, or mechanics of your body to reduce the pain you experience. Your certified MDT practitioner from Gauthier Chiropractic and Wellness Center will ask you to perform a series of movements that gauge range of motion and can classify the pain to identify the treatment needed.

Your pain can be classified in one of three syndromes: postural, derangement and dysfunction.

Postural syndrome

is pain caused by stress on soft tissue due to maintaining certain positions, like sitting for prolonged periods with bad posture. Correcting postural issues will initially seem counterintuitive because there is discomfort in correction.

Derangement syndrome

is pain caused by an obstruction that limits normal joint movement. The chiropractors at Gauthier Chiropractic and Wellness Center design a treatment routine that reduces stiffness and increases your range of motion.

Dysfunction syndrome

is pain caused by trauma, inflammation and degenerative processes. Due to scarring and adaptive healing, connective tissue is shortened and the range of motion is limited.
